DUELING PIANOS ...
Dueling pianos started about 50 years ago in New Orleans at Pat O’Brien’s bar down on Bourbon Street. Mercedes and Connie Kay started banging it out at two upright pianos perpendicular to each other. Dueling pianos was suppose to be classical by nature. People liked it that way and it worked for a long time. Then came Rock-n-Roll and shook it all up. It was so much fun that they all sang along. It was great!
People started changing the words. Men and women sang in competition. They were requesting and stopping songs. People wanted TV tunes. They did hand signs and began acting out the songs!
Two grand pianos, two piano players, how crazy could it get?
The River Rats literally beat the music out of the grand pianos. They slam the lids, they pound the tops, they even walk on the pianos. Party people are brought up on stage to do stupid stuff or worse; they're roasted! Everyone has a good time.
Not for the weak of heart nor for the politically correct. Party on, Garth!
